AN EARLY EXAMPLE OF GRANNY'S
PORCELAIN REPAIR

Wilf's grandma was particularly fond of this teapot and refused to throw it away when broken because, in the days of outside toilets, she would use it for 'peeing' in to save going to the toilet in the yard.

If she was seen by a neighbour throwing the pee outside, it would appear to only be tea, especially if it was still hot and steaming.

A 'BORDELOUE' AND A PAIR OF 'EVER READIES'

The Bordeloue is named after a Jesuit priest, Louis Bordeloue (1632-1704) who gave such long sermons that the desperate ladies were obliged to use this device in their pews. They were able to do this discreetly because they had long dresses and wore split crutch knickers aptly named 'Ever Readies.'
